Drivers Given Windscreen Cover Warning

Motorists are being urged to check their insurance policies after it was revealed many insurers are now removing windscreen cover from some of their products.

According to the AA, many insurance companies are removing windscreen protection in order to offer cheaper premiums to their customers. This is resulting in some motorists trying to make a claim for a damaged windscreen – only to discover they aren’t covered. They’re then forced to foot the bill, which in some cases can run into the thousands!

Gus Park, managing director of AA Insurance Services, said drivers are finding themselves out of pocket if they don’t have the right cover in place.

”Windscreens are more than just a pane of glass, even on older cars,” he said. “Technology such as heads up display, rain and light sensors and cameras all need to be calibrated when replacing the screen. If drivers don’t have this popular cover, they risk footing a hefty bill.”

The main issue seems to be with basic cover. Typically when people take out insurance policies, they try to get them for as cheap as possible. But while this might save you money in the short-term, in the long run it can actually end up costing you more.

Protecting Yourself

If you’re unsure whether you’re covered for damage to your windows, check the wording in your insurance policy. This should detail exactly what cover you have.

If you discover you’re not covered then it might be time to protect yourself to avoid any costly bills in the unfortunate event you need your windows repaired.

Investing in windscreen cover is a wise decision for any vehicle owner. Not only does it protect you from unexpected repair or replacement costs, but cover for your windscreen also provides peace of mind and ensures your vehicle’s safety remains a top priority.
